Biography

Born in Salford, Lancashire in 1959 to a working class family, Mal Perry grew up in tough surroundings. He received his first introduction to music through his parents who would play Sinatra, Nat Cole, Jim Reeves and Mario Lanza.

‘I particularly remember Sundays. I have warm memories of Sunday lunches while listening to family favourites and relaxing afterwards with Billy Cotton and the Black and White Minstrel Show eminating from the Bacolite wireless on a high shelf in the kitchen.’ Mal recently told the BBC.

Educated at Salford Grammar School, Mal who was always involved in sport found a new outlet for his energies and joined a band that had already been formed by some friends, as lead singer.

‘We toured throughout North Wales and performed a wide range of music. The Big Band sound though was always his great love and Mal would perform at any opportunity.

Having sung in the USA, Spain, Mexico, also on Cruise Liners around the West Indies and domestically throughout the UK, Mal is a polished performer delivering the songs made famous by The Rat Pack, Bobby Darin, Nat King Cole and Tony Bennett to name a few.
